2016 Races and Special Events

The Lighthouse Challenge - June 11 and 12

The first day of this 2 day event (weather and wind permitting), begins near Eastport and takes racers past many of the area’s historic lighthouses, including Head Harbor (East Quoddy) Lighthouse, en route to Grand Manan’s Swallowtail Lighthouse, with the return the following day.

RACE INSTRUCTIONS:

Race Coordinator: John Ennis with Scott Fraser in Committee Boat for start only.

USE Channel 11 for all communication.

The Race will start 9:00 am EDT and the starting line will be between the Eastport Chowder House and an Orange PYC marker buoy, heading North with the outgoing tide. Low tide is at 10:42 EDT.

At Grand Manan, the lead boat will fix a finish line between Swallowtail Lighthouse and a chosen fixed point and mark the time at which they cross that line. They should then call in the fixed point and the time they crossed on Channel 11.

Once everyone is in Grand Manan, racers can decide a start time for the next morning. The finish line will be the opposite of the start, heading South off of the Chowder House dock. Each racer must again note their finish time and communicating it to John Ennis.
